Poetry is Alive in Vienna

Being a city rich in culture, Vienna has produced so many great names particularly in the field of arts whether it pertains to visual, performing and literary art. When it comes to the literary art form, poetry is very much alive in the Austrian capital. 

The Madersperger Sewing Machine

One of the most important innovations of the 19th century was the sewing machine and Vienna is a major part of this. This is because a tailor who lived in Vienna became the first man to be granted a patent for his sewing machine. 

Josef Madersperger, a Viennese tailor, designed his sewing equipment in 1814. It took him 10 years to develop the machine. 

Vienna Goes Green for St. Patrick’s Day

Vienna is just one city in Austria that celebrates St. Patrick's Day each year. This 2015, avid fans of this celebration donned their green and orange costumes and aimed for the Guinness Book of World Records. 

This weekend, the Burgtheater and Riesenrad are going green for St. Patrick's Day weekend. Meanwhile, the castle in Kaprun and a ski slope in Tyrol's Soll village will also have green lights to commemorate the occasion. 

Vienna in Top 10 List of Most Powerful Cities

Vienna continues to reap rewards which in turn benefits its citizens and visitors. This year, it was named as the city with the best quality of life by Mercer for the second straight year. Another good news is its being included in the Top 10 global ranking of the most powerful cities. 

Based on the Global City Economic Power Index, Vienna ranks 9th among the world's most economically powerful cities. The survey was done by the Martin Prosperity Institute (MPI) research team. 

Vienna Has Best Quality of Life

For the second year in a row, Vienna retains its crown as the best city in the world for quality of life. Following behind in the Top 5 are Zurich, Aucklan, Munich and Vancouver. 

The list is based on the latest survey of Mercer covering quality of life for expats in some 440 cities. The survey's goal is to guide large multi-national employers and other organizations in deciding on the compensation of their staff particularly when they are assigned in foreign countries whether for the short term or long term.
