Summer in Vienna means the possibility of heat waves and this can be unbearable to many people including tourists. The weather in the city is forecast to ohave high temperatures of up to 38C including in some parts of Austria. 

With the summer heat sure to stay for awhile, locals and visitors need to know the ways to keep cool particularly the elderly and the young ones. We share here some useful tips which should help cool you down these hot months.

Swimming is a very popular activity during summer time and if you're heading to Vienna or other parts of Austria, you won't be disappointed. Although Austria does not have natural beaches, it sure has its share of beautiful lakes and rivers where people can enjoy a dip in the natural waters.

When you're in Vienna, the Old Danube or Alte Donau is the best place to visit. The Gansehaufel area boasts of two kilometersr of beach plus there are also swimming pools, playgrounds and cafes.

Vienna and Austria in general boast of truly delicious food that people from around the world also love. Other than its famous pastries, the country is also well known for its unique bread spreads. 

Austria's bread spreads are tightly linked to the wineries of Vienna, Lower Austria and Styria. It is at here the wineries as well as breweries where people can actually get a taste of these bread spreads. And there are several of them that both locals and tourists love.

Best Places to Cool Down in Vienna

Summer in Vienna means heatwaves and not too many people are able to bear the high temperatures when outdoors. But thankfully, there are many places you can go to in Vienna to cool down and still enjoy the summer season. 

Churches

If you're the religious type of person or someone who just wants to explore places of worship, a visit to one of Vienna's churches will be worth your time. In the first district alone, there are already 25 churches in place. 

Oceaneum Salt Grotto

While it's summer in Vienna, why not breathe in a different kind of air. Head to the Salzgrotte Oceaneum, an artificial salt cave and the first of its kind in the Austrian capital.

Situated in the Wien Mitte shopping center, it's a place where you can breathe in air enriched with salt at a room temperature between 20 and 24C. The salt particles are pumped by an airconditioning unit in a small room where visitors can relax on deckchair. It is said that  salt particles are best for people with asthma, allergies or hay fever. 

Learning the Local Etiquette

When visiting a new country, it's a good idea to be able to learn a few phrases of the local dialect. This will help you interact well with the locals and even make some new friends. 

When in Vienna, travelers should learn to use formal greetings when meeting a local. You can say "Gruss Gott" or Guten Morgen/Tag/Abend" depending on the time of day you're going to use this. It's also customary to return the greeting when you are greeted first or the salutation. 

Vienna is 2nd Most Liveable City for 2015

Vienna adds another feather in its cap as it earned the second spot in the list of most liveable cities for 2015. The London-based Monocle which is a culture and lifestyle magazine gave the title to Vienna. 

Monocle magazine has been comparing the quality of life among the world's international cities since 2007. It ranks cities based on a number of factors such as local public transport, affordable housing, crime rate and favorable business climate. Subjective factors are also taken into account such as joy of live, vibrating nightlife and tolerance.
