Vienna Ballet

The Vienna Ballet is one of Austria’s pride and one of the world’s prestigious ballet companies. From September to June each year, it presents amazing dance performances. For the 2012-2013 season, it presents 14 performances from the classics to the new productions.  

Currently, Manuel Legris is the director who took over the helm in 2010. He is the former Danseur Etoile of the Ballet of the Paris Opera. The Vienna State Ballet performs regularly at the Vienna State Opera an the Volksoper Wien.

Open Air Cinema

The open air cinema that’s only done in Vienna has just been launched. For 41 days starting this June until August 22nd, the Volxskino cinema will present a total of 20 films at 30 locations around the capital’s 14 districts.

To kick off this event, Volxskino has picked Karmeliterplatz in the district of Leopoldstadt. The first film being shown is the original version of Jesus Henry Christ. This 2012 movie stars Toni Collette, Michael Sheen and Jason Spevack and is directed by Dennis Lee, an American.

New Flamingos at Schonbrunn Zoo

Bird lovers have something to look forward to while visiting the Schonbrunn Zoo in Vienna. Now, they can enjoy the sight of more flamingos.

Just recently 19 pink flamingos were hatched in the zoo facility. And as more eggs are still being incubated, reports have it that this number can set a new record for the long-legged birds.

This tall and wading bird species normally mate during winter time. Once hatched from the eggs, the baby flamingos stay in their next and underneath the feather of their parents most of the time.

Life Ball

Elegant balls are part of the Viennese culture. These take place each year and one of them is the Life Ball.

Unlike the other balls, however, the Life Ball is focused on the AIDS campaign and people suffering from it. It is, in fact, one of the world’s largest charity and star-studded events.

This year, Vienna’s Life Ball is set on May 25 with the theme “1001 Arabian Nights.” In line with the theme, the event will feature poetry, fairy tales, fabulous animals and the well-known genies.

Madame Tussauds Vienna Adds New Star Figure

A new wax figure will soon grace the Madame Tussauds Vienna Museum. He’s a young (actually teen) male singer who’s gained international fame. Yes, it’s Justin Bieber, no doubt.

The wax figure of Bieber is now undergoing some finishing touches and the sculptors in the Vienna museum are confident their version of this teen singing sensation will look better than that in the London museum. To create a perfect or almost perfect replica, the stylists in Vienna worked closely with Bieber’s personal hair stylist to copy the teen’s previous famous hairdo.
