Formula 1 fans in Austria will have a rare chance of seeing their past favorite racers this coming June. Racing legends that have been a major part of the F1 history will be the guests during the legends parade for the F1 meet in Spielberg.
The day to mark is June 22nd when the so-called living legends will drive in their original cars. They include Niki Lauda, Gerhard Berger, Jochen Rindt, Helmut Marko, Dieter Quester, Hans Binder, Karl Wendlinger, Alexander Wurz, Patrick Friesacher and Christian Klien.
Reports have it that Gerhard Berger will be riding the Ferrari which enabled him to win in the Monza race way back in 1988. Berger considers the car the most beautiful he has ever driven in his 15 years of racing in Formula One. He is all praises for the vehicle’s long nose and power from the back wheels which he said was one of a kind and was never matched again.
This special Spielberg occasion is to mark the return of Formula 1 to Austria. And for this event, fans will not only see their favorite racers in person but will also have the opportunity to see their winning cars which will be parked in a fan zone for the weekend.
The Red Bull Ring, originally known as the Osterreichring and later the A1-Ring, will be the venue of the first Austrian Grand Prix since 2003. The last team to win in the Austrian F1 race was Ferrari.
Two days before the race, there will be three practice sessions to allow drivers to familiarize themselves with the circuit. A day before, there will be a one-hour qualifying session to decide the starting order for Saturday’s race.
