It may not be October yet but Vienna has already started its famous beer-drinking festival known as Wiener Wiesn-Fest or its own version of Germany’s Oktoberfest. Just this weekend alone, the city’s first weekend event gathered more than a million people who were out to party regardless of the dreary autumn weather.
According to Wiesn-conductor Josef Schmi, this event is a festival of joy, comfort and joyful togetherness. Large crowds that attended this gathering include the locals, foreign visitors and even celebrities. Prince Ernst August of Hanover was seen there as well as tennis legend Boris Becker with his wife Lilly, the ex-boxer Axel Schulz and his wife, and model Marcus Schenkenberg. Also there were former soccer goalkeeper Sepp Maier and singer Heino.
To give you an idea of what people drank during the launch of the weekend festival, they drank one million liters of beer and ate tens of thousands of sausages as well as chicken oxen.
Vienna’s Wiener Wiesn Fest runs until October 12 with the Kaierwiese in the Prater as the venue for the fourth time. For this biggest folk festival in Austria, visitors will get the opportunity to taste Austrian beer, local food and enjoy different music genres. For those who want more fun, they can even dress in the traditional outfits.
With the focus on Golden Austria, this festival will present thei customs, cuisine and music of the country’s provinces. Representatives from the Czec Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Istria are expected to grade the new Crown Land Days.
