Visitors in Vienna wanting to experience Austria’s folk festival should not miss the Wiener Wiesn festival. Situated on the Kaiserwiese in the Prater, this event features genuine Austrian beer, local food, traditional outfits and various types of music.
Now on its fifth year, this autumn festival offers lively entertainment and encourages people to dress in the traditional Austrian costume. There are three festival tents currently in place, each offering a different program of music for visitors.
Some of the concerts being featured are those of Munchener Freiheit, the Edlseer, DJ Otzi and band, Sumpfkroten, Volxrock and Saubartin. All live music on the program total 400 hours and to accompany the music and beer, local cuisine will be served including the well known Wiener Schnitzel and Brettljause. The live music at festival tents starts at 6.30 pm every day until October 11.
On other days, the different provinces of Austria will present their own customs, music and food. The daily program starts at 11.30 am with brass bands and groups showcasing their respective customs.
Another highlight of this event was the traditional costume clubbing for the younger audience.
