With Christmas time just a week away the time is now to visit some of the best Vienna Christmas Markets.  Whether you’ve finished all of your holiday shopping, are looking for those last few gifts, or are just in the mood to enjoy the spirit of the holidays, these markets are just what you need this time of year.

The Viennese Christmas Market

The biggest, and longest running Christmas Market in Vienna is the Viennese Christmas Market.  Located right in front of city hall this market has everything you’re looking for.  From shops to gourmet food to games for the children you can take your pick of the best of Vienna right here.  The main market is located in the square in front of city hall, but if you’re looking to get out of the cold there are shops and activities inside as well.

When: 12th November – 24th December 2016
Opening hours: Daily 10am – 10pm, 24th December 10am – 7pm

Christmas Village at Belvedere Palace

Set against the baroque and impressive backdrop that is Belvedere Palace this market has nearly 50 shops for you to choose that next perfect gift for the loved one in your life. The hotel being nearby is a perfect opportunity to come for some shopping and stop in for a tour of the beautiful art inside the museum.

When: 18th November – 23rd December 2016
Opening hours: Monday – Sunday, holidays: 10am – 9pm

Christmas Village Maria-Theresien Platz

The backdrop of the Museum of Natural History is a great way to experience the culture and beautiful architecture of Vienna during the holidays.  The Christmas Village Maria-Theresien Platz is a great way to get into the spirit and see some of the best that Vienna has to offer during the holidays.

When: 16th November – 26th December 2016
Opening hours: Sunday – Thursday 11am – 9pm; Friday & Saturday 11am -10pm; 24th December 11am – 4pm; 25th – 26th December 11am – 7.30pm.

Christmas and New Year’s Market at Schönbrunn Palace

The most famous setting in Vienna, Schönbrunn Palace, is a perfect way to round of your Christmas Market experience this year.  With some of the best artisans in Vienna coming out to show their wares you’ll find some beautifully made artisinal crafts, and wonderful, unique gifts for your loved ones.  A bit of glühwein is also available for those chilly evenings.

When: 19th November – 26th December 2016 and 27th December 2016 – 1st January 2017

Christmas Market at Spittelberg

Spittelberg is an up and coming area of Vienna that has been revitalized reflecting the feel of the Biedermeier period.  With it’s narrow streets and vintage charm this is a great way to get a feel for the holidays from a different place in time.  Pottery, jewelry, clothes, and blankets for the home are great finds here and are things you likely won’t find anywhere else in Vienna.

When: 12th November – 23rd December 2016
Opening hours: Mondays – Thursdays 3pm – 9pm; Fridays 3pm – 9.30pm; Saturdays 12 noon – 9.30pm; Sundays and holidays 12 noon – 9pm.
