Football Clubs in Vienna

Football is a popular sport in Vienna. In fact, the Austrian capital has some of the world's oldest and most successful football clubs. The national team of Austria is also based in the Ernst Happel stadium in the Prater Park. 

The two major football teams that compete against each other are the Rapid Wien, Austria Wien and First Vienna. The Rapid Wien, though, is considered the oldest club.

As the new year starts, Vienna is already abuzz with different types of balls. It's the ball season, after all. 

One of the famous ball events in the Austrian capital is the Hunter's Ball. This one is unlike any other because participants get to wear traditional Austrian dress and be in fairytale forests depicting the life of hunters. This year, this kind of ball will take place on January 26th at the Imperial Palace.

In fact, Vienna holds a yearly yoga convention and this event is now on its second year. This year's Joya yoga cnvention was held in the Augarten park with more than 5,000 people in attendance both the fitness enthusiasts and even those who are not huge fans of physical fitness but who would like to get started on yoga.

Summer is here and what better way to enjoy it than to get wet by engaging in watersports or just get close to the waters. In Vienna, visitors and locals have many choices when it comes to these activities. 

The older ones can have fun boating and the best place to do it is the Alte Donau. The curving stream will let you see the residential neighborhoods to the northern part of the Danube River. Boat rental is available at An der Obere along the Danube. There are kiosks there that offer boat, canoe or kayak rental. 

Racing Legends to Grace F1 Parade

Formula 1 fans in Austria will have a rare chance of seeing their past favorite racers this coming June. Racing legends that have been a major part of the F1 history will be the guests during the legends parade for the F1 meet in Spielberg. 

The day to mark is June 22nd when the so-called living legends will drive in their original cars. They include Niki Lauda, Gerhard Berger, Jochen Rindt, Helmut Marko, Dieter Quester, Hans Binder, Karl Wendlinger, Alexander Wurz, Patrick Friesacher and Christian Klien.

Vienna boasts of a biking lifestyle that not only helps in reducing the city's carbon footprint but promotes health and fitness among locals and visitors as well. 

Each year, the city hosts various events involving bicycles from challenging races to simple get togethers of bikers with a purpose.

This event takes place each year normally towards the end of April with the goal of celebrating British fashion and style. 

Viennese Women in Roller Derby

Many Viennese women are involved in various sports. But there are others who prefer the unusual kind of sport on wheels. It's not car racing or cycling, though but roller skating. 

The sport is known as roller derby, a full-contact sport that requires players to wear quad roller skates. The players skate on an oval track and find ways to score as many points as possible to win. 

Vienna Night Run

Running is a good physical activity to do particularly during the early morning or even at night time. At these times, the weather is cooler and since the sun is not out yet, you have all the energy to do what you love best. 

In Vienna, various running events are organized every year. One of them is the Vienna Night Run that covers a distance of five kilometers. It is considered one of the largest charity running events in Central Europe.

This stadium was inaugurated in 1931. It plays host to all major international soccer games in Vienna and is also the home of local sports clubs.
