The Hofburg Imperial Palace is another of Vienna’s must-see structures. Built in 1275 or around 800 years ago, the castle used to be the residence of the Habsburg dynasty. Today, the palace is home to the president of Austria.

At the Michaelerplatz is where you will find the main entrance manned by the palace guards. This area then leads to the courtyard and then to the Schweizertor Gateway known as the oldest section of the palace.

While in Hofburg, you should also take time to visit the museums inside the building. Right here alone, you will already get to see many Austrian artifacts. 

The Hofburg is home to the Austrian National Library, the Imperial Treasury) and houses the Museum of Ethnography and the famous Spanish Riding School).
