Hofmobiliendepot: Imperial Furniture Collection

Are you a furniture and antique lover? Or are you simply curious to find out the furniture used by the royalty in the olden days. You’re in luck if you’re visiting Vienna as there’s one spot where you can have a closer look at what the royal families of the past used in their palaces.

The Imperial Furniture Museum is housed in a building where the Hasburgs originally kept their furniture. It later became the royal furniture and materials depository. Today, it features 165,000 exhibits making it one of the world’s bigest furniture collections.

In here, visitors will get to see the furniture of the royal Austrian emperors and their families. They will also get a glimpse of the furnishing styles ranging from the Biedermeier and Historicism to the Viennese modern and contemporary designs. Indeed, this is one amazing place worth exploring as it allows visitors to experience the atmosphere in palaces through the presence of the different types of grandious furniture displays.

Also featured in the museum are the imperial furniture used in the set of the Sissi and other movie productions in the 1950s. A specific room is dedicated for this which also displays the still scenes from the movie, props and other interesting information.

A guided tour is available with the descriptions offered in five languages at no extra cost. Visitors can tour the place from Tuesdays to Sundays. It is open from 10 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m.
