Not many people know that the capital of Austria is a favorite setting and shooting spot for movies. In fact, there are an estimated 70 films with Vienna as the setting while there are some 33 movies shot in the city.
This trend continues until today. Vienna has been receiving requests to film in the city and last year alone, the city received 343 film project requests. The number was up by 5.5 percent from the previous year.
This positive development is attributed to the efforts of the Vienna Film Commission. The Commission was established in 2009 to support film production teams from around the world wanting to shoot in the Austrian capital. Earlier, film makers in the city were few or scarce as many complained about the complexities involved in dealing with the city authorities. Thanks for the stoisits, movie production companies are now better able to negotiate with the city government officials.
Most film production teams that visit Vienna are those from Hollywood and Europe. There are also trainees aspiring to pursue a career in the movie industry who come to the city to shoot their films.
Some famous movies that have been shot in Vienna include The Third Man, Before Sunrise, A Dangerous Method and The Three Musketeers.
