This year’s fall calendar of musical festivals and events is shaping up to be a highly entertaining one with its eclectic mix of performances and presentations. Just recently, the “Waves Vienna” ended on a high note with 90 acts from all over the world and a record attendance of over 10,500 visitors. There was also the two-day “Vienna Fingerstyle Festival” where top international acoustic guitar musicians like David Lindorfer and Jon Gomm performed. Four weeks, 16 locations and over 480 artists of different cultural genres: this is the 25th season offering of Wien Modern 2012 which runs from October 22 to November 16. It is Austria’s biggest festival of contemporary music and this year the spotlight will be on two acclaimed musicians: composer Olga Neuwirth and John Cage. It offers six series of musical events focusing on different genres and instruments such as the “Percussive Planet,” a jazz performance and many more. Running from October 16 to November 10 in different venues around Vienna is a multicultural event that features music from exotic places in Central Asia, Turkey and Northern Africa. There are musical performances, dances and poetry reading by local and international artists.
