Summer of Sounds at Museums Quartier

It’s an exciting summer time in Vienna as a celebration of sounds take place in the MuseumsQuartier.

For the entire summer season spanning three months until the end of September, local residents and visitors will get to enjoy and explore sound, art and architecture as part of the Summer of Sounds festival. 

An exhibit dubbed Josef Dabernig. Rock the Void as well as a numebr of concerts opened the festival last June 5th. Currently, the exhibition entitled Connecting Sound Etc. Cable Works, Cable Sounds, Cable Everywhere at Quartier 21 is going on. During weekdays, the audio mixes of FM4-Soundinsel are played in the MQ while the DJs play their own mixes in the main courtyard on weekends. 

Up to 70 events are lined up until September in the MuseumsQuartier courtyard considered to be one of the world’s 10 biggest cultural districts. 

Other noteworthy activities scheduled during the festival are workshops for kids at the Zoom Children’s Museum that allow them to make music using a junkophone and trash harp, a sound architecture exhibit at the Architecture Centre and an open-air chamber orchestra concert in front of the Leopold Museum. 

Those who love pop music should mark their calendar as music performances are scheduled in three different areas of the MQ on July 26th.

Meanwhile, a unique and captivating water-film sculpture is set to rise from the water basin of the MuseumsQuartier on September 12th. It will be known as the Living Waterfalls. 

The Gustav band will play for the finale event on September 25th.
