Traditional Austrian Dress with a Modern Twist

October is already here and if you’re in any part of Austria particularly Vienna, you should not miss the Oktoberfest events. It would be more fun if you attend those parties in a traditional attire.

The dirndl and lederhosen are the popular Oktoberfest attire that you should prepare. The dirndl is for women while the lederhosen is for the males. They are actually old-fashioned peasant outfits and some of you may not like the way it looks.

But there’s good news. A young designer from Graz is on a mission to create a modern or trendy version of this traditional dress through her own contemporary Tracht.

Alexandra Schuster has just launched her brand called Wulde-Hoamat or Fierce Homeland in English. She and boyfriend Bernd Wippel opened the business with the goal of making the traditional Oktoberfest attire more fun and wearable for young people.

The young female designer revealed that she got the idea of creating the dirndl and lederhosen with a modern twist after her boyfriend who has many tattoos got frustrated with not being able to buy an appropriate lederhosen for himself.

Designer Schuster is now fulfilling her dream of having a creative job and considers herself one of Vienna’s most eccentric and creative designers. And to fulfill her boyfriend’s wish, she came up with dirndls and lederhosens using fabrics featuring tattoo style designs imported from the U.K. Her dirndls are also cut in what she termed rockability style to add a modern twist.
