Vienna Ballet

The Vienna Ballet is one of Austria’s pride and one of the world’s prestigious ballet companies. From September to June each year, it presents amazing dance performances. For the 2012-2013 season, it presents 14 performances from the classics to the new productions.  

Currently, Manuel Legris is the director who took over the helm in 2010. He is the former Danseur Etoile of the Ballet of the Paris Opera. The Vienna State Ballet performs regularly at the Vienna State Opera an the Volksoper Wien.

In April this year, the Vienna Ballet took a different path and presented a series of its original works. The tribute for Creation and Tradition, for instance, presented nine pieces covering classical ballet to the very modern creations.

Reviews of the company’s performances revealed raves for the original works by Vienna Ballet’s very own artists to include three current company members and former dancer Vesna Orlic.

Out of Tango by Vesna Orlic, former Vienna Ballet dancer, was a revelation owing to its dramatic and sexy moves. Orlic is also the creator of the successful Carmina Burana.

Director Manuel Legris is credited for expanding the ballet’s repertoire since he held the top post. In the 2010-2011 season at the start of his career with Vienna Ballet, Legris created eight premieres and presented revivals as well. His revivals included The Sleeping Beauty, Anna Karenina, Don Quixote and Marie Antoinette.

The dancers and choreographers of Vienna Ballet are of different nationalities. But while some come from other countries, there are also local artists who have proven their worth in the company and have carved a name in the international scene.
