First Porsche Resides in Austria

The Porsche is a very popular brand of sports car and is made in Germany. But did you know that the first ever Porsche now resides in Austria?

Yes, the first Porsche car ever made has lived in Austria for 100 years. It is Austria’s first car to be registered and is known as the P1 which refers to the car engineer’s first design. Its official name, however, is the 1898 Egger-Lohner electric vehicle C.2 Phaeton.

Ferdinand Porsche created the car at a young age of 22 after being given the task of developing an electric train for Jacob Lohner, another car manufactuer. In 1892, Porsche drove his first creation around the streets of Vienna.

Speed-wise, the first vehicle could run at an estimated 20 mph. Its horsepower back then was between three and five.

By 1899, it already competed in test races exclusive for electric cars. The owner Ferdinand Porsche would always finish first.

Unfortunately by 1902, this same car was left in a warehouse and no longer used.

The famous and high end Porsche car company was established much later in 1948. Unknown to many, Ferdinand Porsche was not a licensed car engineer as he had no formal training in this field. However, he possessed a natural talent for designing cars which led to the success of his car firm.

To those who are in Stuttgart, Germany or those heading there in the coming days, the first Porsche ever built will be displayed at the Porsche Museum so make sure to drop by there to see this vehicle up close.
